Ibarra to focus on developing novel, scalable in vitro research tools

August 19, 2021, Baltimore, MD – Materic, LLC, a custom designer and manufacturer of advanced materials, today announced the hiring of Bryan Ibarra – a biomedical engineer – as Applications Scientist focusing on advancing development of custom materials and engineered products with Early Charm’s Materic Group companies.

Ibarra, whose academic research is rooted in fostering innovation in the bioengineering space, co-developed the core technology that drives product development for Materic portfolio company, Ortuvo. Ortuvo deploys its proprietary technology to develop novel, scalable in vitro research tools.

In addition, as part of his Master’s program at the University of Florida, Ibarra led independent research centered on the treatment of peripheral nerve injuries and incorporation of an electronic nerve interface within a novel hydrogel formulation.

“As a fellow alumnus of the University of Miami, I’m especially partial to Bryan in joining with us at Materic,” said Ken Malone, Executive Officer with Materic. “Certainly more than that, Bryan encompasses a solid mix of academic and research achievement with real-world product development. He’s a perfect fit with our team and for our company goals.”

As an undergraduate at the University of Miami, Ibarra focused on studying and treating neuropathologies using engineering technologies. Ibarra’s passion in advancing science and developing novel technologies led him to enroll in graduate school at University of Florida.

Ibarra brings six years of lab experience, three of which include independent research chemically synthesizing and characterizing organic conducting polymers, fabricating and characterizing novel composite hydrogels and integrating a tissue engineered electronic nerve interface within peripheral nerve in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

Ibarra recently defended his thesis for his Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida and holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and a B.S. in Neuroscience from the University of Miami.
